Charmaine Bayntun
My interest in art and painting began early in life and was nurtured throughout school. I completed a Bachelor of Art Education at UBC and I enjoyed nurturing my students’ artistic abilities whenever possible even though long work hours and raising a family left little time for my own interests. My last decade of work was as a school administrator and I retired as the principal of Burnaby’s only Fine Arts school. Shortly after that, my husband and I moved to Gibsons. I was deeply inspired by the many fine artists on the Sunshine Coast which renewed my love for the visual. I was a member of the Landing Artists Coop, the Coastal Art Gallery, the Coast Cultural Alliance and I welcomed many into my studio during the yearly Sunshine Coast Art Crawls. In Dec. 2025 we returned to our roots in Burnaby.
I use watercolour, acrylic or oil paints in both wide and closeup views to convey the essence of what captures me visually. I work both from photographic reference and from real-time observation through my walks and travels. While photographs are used to remind me of the moment that my eye was “caught”, in my paintings I strive to emphasize that part of the scene that made me physically stop in my tracks and take note visually. My goal is to have you view the scene through my eyes.
