Jonathan Rider started drawing at a very early age with his grandfather. This developed an aptitude for drawing and painting that led him to an architectural career. His drawing teacher at the McGill School of Architecture provided his first formal training and nurtured a fondness for plein air work.
Most of his painting experience has been with watercolors. Since joining the Guild he has explored acrylic painting and, currently, is working with water miscible oil paint as well as watercolors. The foundation skill of drawing has always been a pillar of his work, and he has done extensive life drawing to hone those skills.
